The Media and Morals

I believe the media plays a role in affecting people's morals, but my focus is specifically in the younger population. Without a clear explanation from an adult on the difference between what's seen in the media and the real world, kids can be easily influenced by what they see through media. Parenting can affect how a child may interprit media and how they act based on what they see and hear. The big issues in media are sex, drugs, and violence, but I believe these isssues can be turned around and used as important assets to teaching a child good morals. Parents can

It is very interesting to think that media has such the large influence that it has on people and their values. I am disjointed when I hear that a famous person, like a movie star, comes out and public ally states who they are supporting. Unfortunately this influence is not based on education and knowledge of the campaign nor, the political issues at state. Instead the influence is on the people by the famous person. We hold famous people with such high esteem that we forget that they are only people, and actors especially act as people whom they may not be. So Media yes has a huge influence and it is scary to think that people might be influenced by a movie start, when there is a possibility they identify with the façade of what and who that movie stat is..... ahhhhhh scary political world

So very true. If you look at any of the news on the front pages, the top stories, or the homepages, it all has something to do with the darker side of humanity. Everywhere I end up looking for news, it has the dark news about murder, genocide, or attacks. It's interesting to see how the media is only attracted to the taboo's in society, and try to justify another "Holy War".

Just to clarify...Are you relating this to people being influenced to vote a certain way? Or just mking decisions in general?

This was the response to the question: Does the media affect morals?

I'm not talking about the election or decision making, just about the media and its effect on people, specifically the younger audience.

I agree with you, but I question sex in the media. Is it so bad? Does sex in the media make the conversation okay? Can we more openly talk about sex and the consequence now that sex symbols surround our everyday lives? I think it might not be all bad to have the topic of sex be an open converstaion. Maybe Im living in an ideal dream world but it would be nice to find some silver lining somewhere

WAY too many parents park their kids in front of the TV and don't explain to them that it isn't real! This has a negative effect on the kids because they grow up thinking that everyone else is just like the people on TV. I don't know...I didn't have TV when I was growing up, and I'm so glad I didn't have to deal with that.
