Respond to Essay #2

After reading Huckleberry Finn, I've concluded that it is not a arcist book. Mark Twain floods the book with racial slurs and dehuminizing situations for blacks, but i believe the book's overall message is one of racial truth and the morals sorrounding it. Many scolars, such as Jane Smiley, give us evidence to support they're argument that Huck Finn is a racist tect, but writers like Peaches Henry provide counter arguments which suggest that Huck Finn's inclusion of racism isn't intended to be racist and can have educational value. I believe the arguments given by Peaches Henry have enough evidence to validate his view of Huck Finn as a non racist book.

i think you have a very strong paragraph and i like how you are giving the reader alot of proof of what you are talking about.

I agree that the book is not racist and I think you use good reasoning to show this. I think some good quotes to use would be something that conveys the time the book took place in and that the language that is used in the book is from that time period.

Wow... that was a really good start. you used lots of examples that make your postion strong. there are a few errors but hey everyone is human. that was a great start though.

I'm working off #2 but I can see that I could do #1

I like how you used two of the different essays to view the two different sides of the controversies. Peaches Henry thinks that Huck Finn is not a racist text and Jane Smiley views it as a racist text

I argee with Nikki that using two opposing arguments on whether the text is racist or not brings depth to your paper and helps create concrete details.

It was really smart of you to put an example of a counter argument, that way you know what other's views would be and how you can prove them wrong.
